Bolivia is a country with great tourism potential, with many attractions, due to its diverse culture, geographic regions rich history and food. The tourism sector, however, is strongly increasing, in fact in 2016 the number of tourists reached 945.350 arrivals.

Bolivian culture is very diverse thanks to the differing origins of the Bolivian peopleBolivian society includes people of Spanish origin, descendants of the colonisers, indigenous groups from the Andes and mestizos, those who are a mixture of the two.

In Bolivia, cultures are very diverse and although most foreigners tend to think that Bolivia is predominantly Andean, Aymara or Quechua, there are actually more than 36 known indigenous cultures in our country, each with its own customs and most with their own languages.

Bolivian Food

Bolivian food consists mainly of meat, potatoes, corn pancakes, rice, eggs, and vegetables. Local specialties include pique a lo macho, grilled beef, and sausage; lechón, suckling pig; and cuy, whole roasted guinea pig-however, some delicacies may only be for the most adventurous stomachs.

 


 

In recent years, several scientific James M. Allen, locate the lost continent of Atlantis in the Bolivian altiplano (specifically Pampa Aullagas, Oruro Department). These facts have led to a growing interest focused on the important archaeological riches.

  • The Carnival of Oruro in February (in 2018 will take place between 3 and 13 February), great festival where religion is mixed with the folklore, colours, and devotion to the Virgen del Socavón.
  • The salt flats of Uyuni and Coipasa, the largest salt flats in the world.
  • The ski slope highest in the world, called Chacaltaya.
  • The highest mountain in the country: Nevado Sajama, with the highest forest in the world.
  • The lakes Green lake and Red Lagoon, sanctuary of the Andean flamingos with one of the largest active volcanoes in the world, the Licancabur.
  • Casa de la Libertad in Sucre, where the Declaration of Independence of Bolivia remains.In which up the first cry for freedom in South America, and is also home to one of the oldest universities in the Americas “University San Francisco Xavier”
  • Cerro Rico in Potosí, formerly the largest deposits of silver of the world.
